LOCATION

Wichita is in south-central Kansas, at the junction
of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas rivers, about
60 miles north of the Kansas-Oklahoma state line.

BEGINNINGS
Wichita was named for the Wichita Indians,
who originally inhabited the area. The first white
settlers came to the region in the 1850s and 1860s.
Wichita was incorporated as a village in 1870.
